Neither the behavior of Moses nor that of the Israelites is strange to me. In both, there are human qualities displayed. When God chooses Moses and commands him to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, Moses replied, "Who am I that should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? (Exodus 3)." As people, we often underestimate our capabilities. However, in this context God assures Moses that God will be with him, "I will be with you (Exodus 3)." This provided faith for Moses, to believe.
